Baptist Church
Pastor Mike was saved at the age of 34 at the Bible Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia. He answered God's call to preach 18 months later and attended Victory Baptist College in North Augusta, SC. After graduating in 1996 he was the pastor at Crossroads Baptist Church in Hephzibah, Georgia for 11 years. He started Canaan Baptist Church in January of 2008. Bro. Mike and his wife Sally have two children and four grandchildren.
Our Purpose
Canaan Baptist Church exists for the purpose of evangelizing our city and the world, educating believers in the Word of God and in the ways of God, and encouraging the children of God in a discouraging world. We do all that we do for the glory of God and out of gratitude to the Lord for His goodness in our lives.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
EVANGELIZATION
It is the goal of Canaan Baptist Church to reach the people of Augusta and the surrounding areas with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The greatest need of mankind is forgiveness of sin and a right relationship with their Creator. This is accomplished through the Cross of Calvary and the finished work of Jesus. We are commanded to preach the Gospel to every creature. While reaching out to Augusta through our preaching ministries and our soul winning visitation, we also strive to reach the world by supporting missionary work through our missions program.
EDUCATION
It is also our purpose to train believers in the Word and the Ways of God. Jesus said we are to "teach them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." We attempt to do this through our Bible Classes on Sunday mornings and through our Bible Institute Classes.
ENCOURAGEMENT
It is our desire to encourage the people of God. People today are discouraged and depressed by the wickedness of the world around us, but we have the promise of God that he will never leave nor forsake us and that he will go with us wherever go. Jesus is coming soon and we are to be busy serving Him until he comes. Our music program, preaching services, and church fellowships are designed with encouragement in mind. The world is depressing enough, so we design our church services on purpose to be upbeat and exciting.
Our Programs
Bible Classes for all ages. In our Sunday School hour we use the Word of God to teach and train believers in the things of God. Our classes are designed with all ages in mind and are taught in a way that brings the Bible alive in the world we live in today. The Bible holds the answers to life's questions and instructions for living that bring success and joy to God's people.
Preaching Ministries Our preaching is designed to bring Biblical truth and instruction in a way that is relevant and applicable to the lives of the hearers. It is more than teaching, it is proclaiming the Word of God in the power of the Holy Spirit with the goal of producing a response.
Soul Winning Visitation On Tuesday evening and at other times in the week our people go door to door in the neighborhoods of Augusta sharing the gospel with the families of our community. We give people the plan of salvation and explain how they can be forgiven and be assured of eternal life in Heaven.
Outreach Ministry We are proud supporters of the Garden City Rescue Mission here in Augusta. It is great privilege to go on the first Saturday of each month and prepare a meal for the people in the shelter and preach in the evening chapel service.
